Day 2 Monday, March 27
After a delicious South African Breakfast at your hotel, set out for a day of exploring Cape Town.
Morning: Your driver will transfer you to the departure point for your boat ride to Robben Island. Here you will meet Christo Brand, Nelson Mandela’s previous prison guard, who later became one of his close friends. Robben Island, is considered the unique symbol of “the triumph of the human spirit over adversity, suffering and injustice.” The Island is famous for being home to Nelson Mandela for 18 of his 27 years of imprisonment.
After you go across to the island on the ferry, once on the island you will be separate from the group and will have your own vehicle for the island tour and will do the prison part with Christo Brand. A private, exclusive, and personal tour of Robben Island with Christo Brand.
Afternoon: On return to the mainland from Robben Island you will have lunch at The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. After lunch, then head into the City Centre for a brief walking tour taking in the main historical sites, including the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest building in the country. Your city tour ends with a trip in the cable car to the top of Cape Town’s iconic landmark – Table Mountain, also a Natural Wonder of the World.
The City Orientation includes both historical and cultural sites of interest in the Cape Town City Centre. Because you are doing both Robben Island and Table Mountain, there is not a lot of time to spend in the city. You will do a drive by the main streets, stop in the Bo Kaap which is famous for its colourful houses (and its unique blend of Curry!). If time permits, you will walk about in the Company Gardens which is surrounded by the Parliament Houses, several Museums and Art Galleries. If you are interested you can have a quick stop as well at Greenmarket Square which is a large fleamarket, with arts and crafts from all over Africa. You will have a driver, so you can spend as much or as little time as you like at the stops, or skip them if you aren't interested.
Please note: Should you choose to not dine at the V&A Waterfront for Dinner, during your stay in Cape Town, your Driver Guide will be available each evening for dinner transfers, within Cape Town, except for day of arrival. We are happy to make suggestions based on your food preferences.
